France has announced its intention to acquire two examples of Saab's GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft. A mutual letter of intent was signed today by Saab and the French defence procurement agency DGA (Direction Générale de l'Armement) at the Paris Air Show.

– We welcome today's announcement from France regarding the intention to acquire GlobalEye. This will strengthen the French Armed Forces' capability to establish a comprehensive operational picture and detect threats in the air, on land, and at sea, says Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, in a press release from the company.

In addition to the two planned aircraft, the letter of intent also includes an option for two further units. The agreement also covers ground equipment, training, and support. No contract has yet been signed, but according to DGA a deal is expected to be finalised within the coming months, Saab states.

– A strong partnership between Sweden and France strengthens NATO's collective defence. France announced today its intention to acquire four GlobalEye aircraft. This will benefit our countries and deepen interoperability. We also signed a roadmap for further defence cooperation, writes Defence Minister Pål Jonson (M) on X alongside a photograph of himself and his French counterpart Sébastien Lecornu.
