The physical AI lab NestAI and A2/AD specialist FORCIT are initiating a partnership to develop intelligent and software-defined defence solutions. According to the companies, the collaboration aims to transform traditionally passive area denial systems into coordinated networks to enhance European defence capabilities.

– In a time of changing geopolitical landscapes, Europe must own the foundations of its own security. We are not just building software and AI; we are building sovereign infrastructure that ensures critical defence capabilities remain under European control, says Peter Sarlin, chairman of NestAI.

According to a press release from the companies, FORCIT's existing sensor systems and insensitive munitions (IM) technology are combined with NestAI's open platform NestOS. The transition is described as a shift from static, isolated hardware to systems that are controlled and adapted operationally via software.

In practice, the architecture enables a distributed perception capability where multiple sensors and cameras act as a unified network, according to the companies. The integrated decision-making capability in the hardware is expected to provide increased situational awareness and faster reaction times. Both parties emphasize that the autonomous actions are still governed under human control to meet current regulations.

– Over the past decade, we have purposefully expanded FORCIT's expertise in sensors and electronics. Initiating a partnership with NestAI allows us to integrate intelligent decision-making directly into our proven hardware, says Joakim Westerlund, CEO of FORCIT.
