The need for innovation in the defense sector is growing in line with rapid technological development and the changing global situation. During a seminar organized by FMV in September, the importance of collaboration between military leaders and startups was highlighted to leverage civilian technological advancements, writes FOI in a press release.

The British Brigadier General Robbie Boyd (Ret.) stated that "generals need to learn to speak with startups" to streamline procurement processes and promote innovation, during the seminar.

FOI contributes through its participation in the Military Innovation Program (MIP), which aims to identify civilian technologies with potential use within the Armed Forces, writes the agency. The seminar also addressed technologies such as unmanned underwater vehicles and social robots, which can be used for military purposes.
