The government has tasked the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) with conducting an in-depth analysis of the availability of semiconductor technology in materiel systems of significant importance to the Swedish defense, according to a press release from the government. FMV is to report the assignment to the Government Offices by January 15, 2026.
The analysis will map the type of semiconductors, their position in the value chain, and identify any obstacles to transparency in the supply chain. FMV will also propose measures to strengthen supply security and reduce vulnerability to influence from antagonistic actors.
– Semiconductors are crucial for important defense systems. Therefore, we need to improve transparency in supply chains and review how we can enhance security in this area, says Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) in the press release. The assignment is part of the follow-up to the previous risk assessment of groundbreaking technology (Fö2024/01930) and is included in the implementation of the government's defense industry strategy, particularly the section on secure supply chains.
