FMV has completed the installation of IFF systems on the types of vessels within the Swedish Armed Forces that are to have the capability, FMV states in a press release. Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) is an encrypted system used to identify coalition forces within the EU and NATO.

– FMV has been working on the system and equipment handover for the interrogators for a long time, and now this much-requested capability can finally be delivered, says Mats Nord, project manager at FMV.

The system has been installed on eight different types of naval vessels, including the Visby and Gävle class corvettes, which have also been equipped with IFF interrogators to pose identification queries to other platforms.

The Naval Warfare Centre has also received the system for training purposes, enabling realistic exercises within the navy's cooperation with other nations. The introduction of IFF has required certification for each type of vessel, which has been conducted in collaboration with AIMS in the USA.

– A major prerequisite for the successful certification has been close cooperation with AIMS, says Mats Nord.
