– FMV can confirm that since SMaRC's inception, the field has developed and that the Swedish Armed Forces and FMV see continued strong development within SMaRC's area together with industry, authorities, and academia. The development will benefit and strengthen Swedish positions in the underwater domain. Sweden as a NATO member also provides SMaRC with new opportunities for collaboration. SMaRC strengthens Sweden's underwater capability in the long term, says Per Öhrstedt, Head of System Management at FMV's Marine Operations Area.
SMaRC, Sweden's largest academic investment in underwater robotics, is an interdisciplinary research centre. The centre involves partners from industry, academia, and authorities to develop intelligent autonomous systems.
The research covers areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence, electrochemistry, vehicle design, underwater networks, and oceanography. The goal is to strengthen Sweden's position in maritime innovation and underwater technology.
– The funding will allow us to intensify our focus on autonomous technology and its applications to meet our partners' needs and increase our knowledge of the sea. At SMaRC, we will further develop our robots to be more autonomous and adaptable to advanced operations and ensure that our innovations are accessible to both internal and external stakeholders, says Peter Sigray, Head of SMaRC.
