The first unit of the Archer 8x8 artillery system has been delivered to the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for acceptance inspection. The delivery is described as a milestone in the work to develop and strengthen Sweden's divisional artillery capability.

The system has been developed in close collaboration between BAE Systems Bofors, FMV, and the Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten). The company's Chief Executive Officer, Lena Gillström, describes the delivery as the result of joint efforts between the parties.

"This is the result of outstanding teamwork, within our organisation, with FMV, and with the Swedish Armed Forces. Seeing the first unit leave our hands and be received by the customer is proof of what we can achieve together. I am immensely proud of everyone who has contributed to reaching this milestone," says Gillström in a press release on LinkedIn.

Following the first delivery, work continues on additional deliveries of the Archer 8x8. This is described as part of strengthening Sweden's artillery capability, according to BAE Systems Bofors.

It was in 2023 that FMV announced that it had signed a contract with Bofors for the procurement of 48 Archer 8x8 units, and earlier in January, NDS reported on how the first artillery unit had rolled out at BAE Systems Bofors, ahead of delivery to FMV.
