FMV has signed an agreement with Saab for the delivery of the Giraffe 4A radar system. The system is part of the Sensorsystem ny program and will replace the Swedish Armed Forces' older PS-871 radar.
– The medium-range systems will contribute to a strengthened air and sea situational awareness, says Per Schylström, project manager at FMV, in a press release from the agency.
The contract includes several systems with a total value of approximately 1.4 billion SEK. The first system will be delivered in 2026, followed by successive deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces.
In a separate press release from Saab, the company states that Giraffe 4A is a mobile multifunction radar for air and sea surveillance, adapted for future needs through software-based updates.
– Giraffe 4A strengthens Sweden's medium-range sensor capability and enables long-term capability development, says Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab's business area Surveillance.
Saab has previously received orders for the same system from, among others, the United States Air Force, which reported in December 2024.
