– The contract with Milrem is the first, and more contracts are expected to be signed during the year, says Caroline Viberg, Head of the Army Materiel Division at FMV, to FSN.
The contract was signed at Eurosatory 2024 by Brigadier General Jonas Lotsne, Head of Land Systems at FMV, and Sverker Svärdby, CEO of Milrem Robotics Sweden, in the presence of the Swedish Army Chief, Major General Jonny Lindfors, according to a press release from Milrem Robotics.
– We are proud to welcome Sweden as the latest user of the THEMIS UGV. Our collaboration will ensure that the Swedish forces are equipped with the most advanced robotic systems available, enhancing their operational efficiency, says Sverker Svärdby in the press release.
The variant in question that FMV has procured, THEMIS Cargo, equipped with MIFIK – Milrem's Intelligent Functions Kit, which enables autonomous mobility – will be used for trials and experiments by FMV, the Swedish Defence Research Agency (Totalförsvarets forskningsinstitut), and the Swedish Armed Forces, the company writes.
– The development of autonomous systems is progressing rapidly, and it is of great importance to better understand through practical trials how this affects the battlefield of the future, says Caroline Viberg to FSN.
Milrem Robotics states that they will provide ongoing support and updates. The vehicle now procured, THEMIS Cargo, is in a cargo version for the delivery of materiel, but the vehicle can be adjusted to perform evacuation, reconnaissance, and combat missions.
