FMV has signed a contract with Rheinmetall to procure Mk82 aerial bombs for the Jas 39 Gripen C/D and E. The aim is to enhance the Air Force's capability to engage ground targets. The contract, valued at over 100 million SEK, includes deliveries starting in the spring of 2025, according to FMV.

The Mk82 is a conventional bomb that can be used both as a guided and unguided weapon load.

– The procurement of the bomb bodies is another step in strengthening the operational capability of Swedish combat aircraft as part of NATO, says Martin Anderberg, head of combat aircraft systems at FMV, in a press release from the agency.

Brigadier General Lars Helmrich, head of FMV's Aerospace and Space Materials division, describes the procurement as part of a comprehensive investment.

– In 2024, FMV placed orders in the aerospace and space sector for nearly 20 billion SEK. This year, we continue with both orders and deliveries to the Armed Forces' combat units, writes Helmrich on LinkedIn.
