– This important milestone makes the Archer system the foundation for the Swedish Army's new divisional artillery, says Lena Gillström, CEO of BAE Systems Bofors in the company's press release, and continues:
– It is also important for BAE Systems Bofors' continued work in jointly developing the Archer system together with the Swedish customer, and to establish Archer as the most advanced wheeled 155mm howitzer in operation today.
According to FMV, the acquisition is partly a replacement for the pieces that Sweden is selling to the United Kingdom and donating to Ukraine, and partly a new acquisition to strengthen the Swedish defense's artillery capability in accordance with the 2020 defense policy decision.
– This is very important to start the production of new artillery pieces for the Armed Forces. It is extremely urgent to replace the pieces we deliver in cooperation with the United Kingdom to support Ukraine and to increase the capability for artillery combat according to the defense policy direction, says Jonas Lotsne, head of army materiel FMV.
