The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has placed a new order for 35 heavy recovery vehicles for the Swedish Armed Forces. The order, amounting to approximately 420 million Swedish kronor, is awarded to the Polish supplier Szczesniak.

– These vehicles represent a very welcome enhancement of the Swedish Armed Forces' recovery capability. The project has worked hard and successfully to meet a tight delivery schedule, says Jonas Silfver Wikstrand, section manager for heavy wheeled vehicles at FMV.

The order is the second under a contract signed in early 2025. In conjunction with the contract, a first order for ten vehicles was made.

The new vehicles are built on a four-axle, all-wheel-drive chassis from Scania and weigh approximately 34 tonnes. They are equipped with several winches and a main boom with a lifting capacity of 20 tonnes. The vehicles are designed to recover, lift, and tow all wheeled vehicles of the Swedish Armed Forces.

The project's timeline is also highlighted. A heavy recovery vehicle of this type is built in about twelve months, according to FMV's system engineers.

– Building a heavy recovery vehicle in about twelve months is an achievement. It has been a comprehensive effort for us at FMV, where we have had excellent support from the Swedish Armed Forces, say Lars Nordin and Peter Gessl, system engineers at FMV.

The vehicles are intended to be used in various types of recovery situations and are equipped with a large number of accessories to handle varying tasks.
