The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has placed an order for supplementary medium-range radar and spare parts for the Swedish Armed Forces' brigade air defence from Saab. The order is valued at approximately 1.2 billion Swedish kronor, with planned deliveries during 2029 to 2030. The deal is an extension of the base contract for the brigade air defence system that the parties signed in autumn 2025.

– This is an important order for the overall brigade air defence capability. The full focus is now on follow-up and preparing for deliveries so that the introduction into the units proceeds as smoothly as possible, says Jonas Lotsne, Head of the Army Materiel business area at FMV.

The supplementary order covers medium-range radar of the Giraffe AMB type, along with associated command and control systems and spare parts. According to the press release from FMV, the new materiel provides units with a "substantially enhanced sensor capability".

The Army's brigade air defence has as its primary task the protection of friendly forces against airborne threats such as combat aircraft, helicopters, drones, and missiles. The system is also intended to contribute to the Swedish Armed Forces' overall capability to detect, track, and engage these types of threats.
