FMV has signed a three-year framework agreement with the South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace for the delivery of propellant charges for artillery. An initial order was placed in conjunction with the AUSA exhibition in Washington DC and is valued at approximately 1 billion SEK.

The order provides an additional qualified charge to be used in the Archer artillery system from BAE Systems Bofors. FMV emphasises that the agreement with Hanwha is an important measure to secure the Swedish Armed Forces' needs in the short term.

– FMV is working intensively with several suppliers globally to secure the Swedish Armed Forces' needs for various types of ammunition. Regarding propellant charges, our contracts with Hanwha are important components, says Jonas Lotsne, Head of the Army Materiel Division at FMV, in the press release.

The new agreement is the second in order between FMV and Hanwha. Nordic Defence Sector reported in December 2024 on the first order. According to FMV, deliveries from Hanwha are intended to secure the immediate needs of the Swedish Armed Forces, while the Nordic ammunition cooperation increases its production capacity.

Hanwha Aerospace will deliver modular charge systems (MCS), a NATO-standardised propellant charge system for 155 mm artillery platforms. MCS is modularly designed, which according to Hanwha allows for the adjustment of the amount of propellant based on different conditions.

– This contract is a concrete result of the deep trust and cooperation we have built with Sweden, says Billy Boo-Hwan Lee, Head of the PGM Business Division at Hanwha Aerospace, in a press release from the company.
