The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has signed an agreement with the French supplier Safran Electronics & Defense for the delivery of a new fire control system to the army. The contract is worth approximately 488 million SEK, and the first systems are to be delivered in the spring of 2026 after personnel training.

– This is an important technical system for the army, and being able to start delivering this already in 2026 will be another crucial piece in the army's growth, says Jonas Lotsne, head of the army materiel division at FMV.

The fire control system will be used by fire control groups to observe, identify, and classify targets and direct indirect fire under all lighting conditions and in time-critical situations. The main component is an optronic binocular with IR capability, laser rangefinder, compass, tilt sensor, and GPS. The system is complemented by software for digital map support, target acquisition, and reporting to command systems.

– With the advanced sensor binocular as a base and the possibility to complement it with a north-seeking gyro, we get a system with very high precision that can be fully utilized with modern precision ammunition, says Claes Tamm, project manager at FMV.
