FMV has signed a contract with Belgian FN Herstal for the delivery of heavy machine guns for the armored vehicles being procured for the Swedish Armed Forces. The contract, worth approximately 211 million SEK, was signed on September 9 during the defense exhibition DSEI in London.

The agreement includes a main delivery in November 2026 with options for additional orders during the period 2026–2028. The weapon ordered is the Machine Gun 88, a variant of the American Browning M2, used for close protection, and has a caliber of 12.7x99 mm.

– Through this contract, we ensure that the new armored vehicles receive a well-proven and effective armament for close protection. The MG 88 is a powerful system that provides the vehicles with both high firepower and reliability in demanding environments, says Carl-Axel Blomdahl, head of weapons and protection at FMV, in the agency's press release.

The order is part of the agreement that FMV signed with Patria Land Oy in June 2022 for the delivery of 321 armored vehicles with associated weapon stations.
