The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has decided to order an additional 22,500 automatic rifles of the AK 24 model from the Finnish supplier Sako, according to a press release from the agency. The weapons will be gradually delivered to the Swedish Armed Forces, with the first 7,500 units planned to arrive this year, 15,000 in 2025, and 15,000 in 2026.

FMV's project manager for small arms, Anders Östberg, explains that the weapon is designed with a focus on modern ergonomics and adaptability for different body sizes.

– The delivery is proceeding as planned, both in terms of deliveries from Sako to FMV and from FMV to the Swedish Armed Forces, says Anders Östberg.

The agreement is part of a larger framework agreement, signed in 2023 between FMV and the Finnish arms manufacturer Sako. Last week, FMV conducted a ceremonial handover of the automatic rifle 24 in caliber 5.56 to the Swedish Armed Forces. The formal delivery of the system will take place on December 16.
