The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed contracts with Nammo Sweden AB and Norma Precision AB for the supply of small-caliber ammunition. The agreements meet the Swedish Armed Forces' needs for small-caliber ammunition for 2024 and 2025. The total value of the contracts is approximately 2.8 billion SEK, according to a press release from FMV.

– In our effort to create long-term conditions, the contracts with both suppliers also include options that could enable deliveries until 2030, says Carl-Axel Blomdahl, head of the weapons and protection department, in the agency's press release.

Norma Precision, located in Åmotfors, Värmland, has so far manufactured ammunition for hunting and sport shooting. In an interview with Arvika Nyheter in May 2023, Aki Suvilahti, Norma's newly appointed CEO, stated that the company does not intend to convert the factory for military customers:

– We are fully occupied with supplying our customers with ammunition for hunting and sport shooting, and there are no plans for conversion. The forecast for 2024-2025 indicates an increased demand for our products. A significant portion comes from untapped markets.

In a new interview with the CEO in January this year, the response was somewhat different.

– We are looking at many new opportunities and commercial markets, but when it comes to military equipment, we do not wish to comment for security and confidentiality reasons, says Aki Suvilahti.

FMV states in its press release that the contracts also include requirements for supply security, where the supplier commits to developing a supply security plan to ensure deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces at all readiness levels: peace, crisis, and war.

– It is, of course, very gratifying to be able to sign this type of contract with multiple suppliers in the same area. Achieving long-term conditions creates good production conditions, and multiple suppliers themselves contribute to increased supply security, says Carl-Axel Blomdahl to FMV.
