FMV has signed an agreement with Nammo to support a project application within the framework of the ASAP initiative, Act in Support of Ammunition Production, for investment in increased production capacity of artillery ammunition in Sweden, FMV writes in a press release.

The agreement aims to increase deliveries of 155 mm artillery ammunition and strengthen supply security. The intended investment is partially financed by the Swedish state and partially by the EU within the framework of ASAP. The agreement will be converted into a final contract, provided that the EU, in competition with other project proposals, allocates funds in the first quarter of 2024, according to the authority.

– We are now taking the next important step to accelerate investments in the industry's production capacity. This will reduce delivery times, increase the ability to support Ukraine, and at the same time strengthen the supply security of artillery ammunition in Sweden and the Nordic region in the long term, says Jonas Lotsne, head of FMV's Army Materiel division, in the press release.

During the Folk och Försvar National Conference in Sälen, Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) previously announced that the government wants to create conditions to triple the production of artillery shells in Sweden within a few years.
