FMV has signed an extended contract with Saab for continued work within the Future Combat Air System Concept Programme (KFS). The agreement includes technology development, concept studies, and a flying demonstrator, with a total value of approximately 2.7 billion kronor.
According to FMV's press release, the concept and technology part extends to the third quarter of 2026, while the demonstrator work, including test flights, continues until 2027. The mission is conducted within the framework of the joint governmental programme Combat Air Choices, where FMV collaborates with the Swedish Armed Forces, FOI, and industry partners Saab and GKN Aerospace.
– This extension ensures continuity in the development work and is an important part of developing and verifying technology that can form the basis for future decisions on Swedish combat air capability, says Carl-Fredrik Edström, Head of the Air and Space Materiel Division at FMV, in the press release.
In a press release from Saab, it is stated that the mission includes studies of manned and unmanned solutions from a system perspective, technology development, and demonstrators. The order is a continuation and expansion of a previous contract from March 2024.
– This order is the next step in our joint journey to deliver innovative solutions to meet the future operational needs of the Swedish Armed Forces and other customers, says Lars Tossman, Head of Saab's Aeronautics business area, in the press release.
