The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has delivered the new uniform system Combat Uniform 24 (MSU24) to the Swedish Armed Forces. At a ceremony at FMV's headquarters Tre Vapen in Stockholm, the first uniforms were handed over, which are now beginning to be distributed to the units, according to a press release from FMV.
MSU24 has been developed to meet modern requirements for functionality, comfort, and protection. The uniform system consists of several parts, from merino wool underwear to flame-resistant shell jackets. The first units will be delivered to Swedish units in 2025.
– When the current field uniform FU90 was developed, FMV set a number of detailed requirements regarding, for example, fit and which materials should be used. Since then, there has been incredible material development that has been utilized in MSU24 by the market suggesting the latest in military clothing, says Robert Skyllberg Averin, project manager at FMV, in the press release.
The outer garments of the uniform are made of flame-resistant materials with embedded carbon fiber hexagons to protect the wearer in the event of explosions, for example. The garments are also adapted for the layering principle, where pockets and fastenings have been designed to be easily accessible even with multiple layers on.
The work on MSU24 began nine years ago within the framework of the Nordic cooperation NORDEFCO, where Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden collaborated on the development. The supplier of the uniforms is the Norwegian company Oskar Pedersen A/S, with production at several locations in Europe.
