The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has handed over a new Air Force sword, the M/15-25, to the Swedish Armed Forces. The handover took place in June at Uppsala Air Wing (F 16).

The sword was first used during the Swedish Air Force’s 100th anniversary celebrations. It will now become part of the service’s ceremonial equipment.

The M/15-25 is based on the Swedish naval officer’s sabre M/1915. The Air Force version has a different etching on the blade and the Air Force emblem on the guard. According to FMV, the designation shows the link between the older model and the new one.

The Army Staff, the Air Staff, industry and FMV developed the sword together. Promoteq AB is the supplier. The swords are made by WKC in Solingen, Germany, a company that specialises in military ceremonial swords. FMV says forging, grinding and assembly are still largely done by hand. Each sword is inspected before delivery.

FMV did not say how many swords were ordered or what the contract was worth.
