The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), on behalf of the Swedish Armed Forces, has completed the delivery of the UAV 06 A drone system, which will be used by both the army and the Home Guard. The system, also known as RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft System), is of the model Parrot ANAFI USA GOV and consists of a quadrocopter with an accompanying remote control, batteries, and charger.

The aircraft is equipped with an optical camera with 1-32x zoom and an IR camera and can fly predetermined routes without direct control from the operator. GPS is used for navigation, but the drone can also be used without a GPS signal. With a fully charged battery, the system has an operating time of approximately 30 minutes, according to FMV.

The agency describes the system as a tool for near real-time intelligence, which can provide insight into areas such as those beyond hills or behind forest lines. The system is intended to improve the decision-making basis for commanders at various levels within the Swedish Armed Forces.

– Acquiring and delivering UAV 06 represents a significant step for the Home Guard's ability to solve tasks such as surveillance and protection. The system is easy to use and provides real-time intelligence capabilities, says Peter Wilhelmsson, system manager at FMV.

Previously, Försvarssektorn Nyheter reported that UAV 06 A is delivered as part of UAV 06 Skatan, a drone system being introduced in the Home Guard to develop methods and tactics for the use of remotely piloted aircraft. Lieutenant Colonel Jan-Åke Andersson at the National Home Guard Staff's support department has emphasized that the system increases the Home Guard's ability to perform tasks both in daylight and darkness.
