Helicopter 16, the Swedish designation for the American helicopter Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk, was first acquired in 2011 when fifteen units were ordered.
– The acquisition of more helicopters is in line with the Supreme Commander's military advice to the government and the Defense Commission's report on strengthened defense capability for Sweden as an ally, says Michael Stolpen, head of unit at FMV in the agency's press release.
FMV states that the contract is procured from the US Army under Foreign Military Sales (FMS), a program that enables the sale of military equipment to other countries. The agreement was approved by the American Department of Defense in June and deliveries to the Swedish Armed Forces will take place continuously over several years.
