FMV has signed an addendum with Saab for newly produced equipment for the Gripen E. The deal, valued at approximately 2.9 billion SEK, means that the entire Swedish order of 60 aircraft will primarily be equipped with newly manufactured material.

The original Gripen E contract was signed in 2013 and was based on reusing equipment from Gripen C/D. With the new agreement, the majority of the 60 ordered Gripen E aircraft will be built with entirely new material.

According to FMV, this is the fourth time the proportion of reused material has been reduced.

Saab emphasizes that the order ensures full availability for the existing Gripen C/D fleet while introducing the Gripen E with new equipment.

– We are very pleased to support the Air Force in protecting Sweden's air domain. The contract ensures full availability for the Gripen C/D fleet while enabling the Gripen E to be introduced into the Armed Forces with new equipment, securing its operational lifespan for the coming decades, says Lars Tossman, head of Saab's Aeronautics business area, in the press release.
