The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration has made a second call-off on the framework agreement with Iveco Defence Vehicles and ordered 100 medical transport vehicles of the Medical 1 model, announces the agency. The order follows the first call-off in 2023, when FMV purchased a total of 400 vehicles in the versions of flatbed, troop transport, and medical transport under the same framework agreement, which FSN reported on earlier.

Medical 1 can be used in three roles: up to five patients for medical transport (medtrans), two lying patients for care (medcare), and one patient for intensive care (medintensive). The vehicle is seven meters long, four-wheel drive, and equipped to handle forest roads, water depths of 50 cm, as well as the Swedish Armed Forces' medical equipment. The care area includes two belted seats for medical personnel and storage space for equipment.

– With Medical 1, the Swedish Armed Forces receive a vehicle capable of handling the roles of medtrans, medcare, and medintensive, says Christer Björk, project manager at FMV.

The agreement with Iveco covers up to 3,000 multifunctional vehicles and can be extended for up to nine years. The majority of the first delivery will take place in 2025.
