FMA Signs 5G Agreement with Northcom

The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (Forsvarsmateriell, FMA) and Northcom have signed a framework agreement for the delivery of commercial radio and 5G systems to the Norwegian Armed Forces. The agreement is valued at 480 million NOK excluding VAT and spans seven years, including options.

– For us, it has been important to establish a long-term agreement that ensures sufficient deliveries of commercial radio and 5G systems, says Eiliv Ofigsbø, Director of ICT Capabilities at the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency.

According to a press release from FMA, the framework agreement entails that Northcom will meet the defence's needs for commercial analogue and digital radios, smartphones with special features, 5G routers, and accessories. In addition to meeting future national defence and security needs, the company will also contribute to the development of current solutions in communication technology.

Northcom has previously been a supplier of critical communication technology to both emergency preparedness agencies and the Norwegian Armed Forces.

– The goal of the framework agreement is to ensure the delivery of modern communication technology with associated equipment for use within total defence. In a time of increased geopolitical tension, it feels particularly meaningful to be able to contribute to secure communication in the defence sector, says Bjørn Windfeldt, CEO of Northcom.
