The Airbase Rangers at F 17, together with pararescuemen from the 57th Rescue Squadron, have conducted a rescue exercise at Vidsel in Norrbotten. The exercise aims to develop the capability for rescue in extreme cold and inaccessible terrain in a subarctic environment with partner organisations.

The American pararescuemen, also known as PJs, are based in Aviano, Italy, and the unit is dedicated to working with rescue, which is also one of the main tasks of the Airbase Rangers. The Airbase Rangers will also collaborate with the PJs during Aurora 23.

─ The collaboration provides many positive synergies. The Americans are incredibly skilled in the management of rescue operations and have a well-developed system for it. The Airbase Rangers contribute with a geographical environment and exercise scenarios with equivalent adversaries, says Sebastian Blixte, company commander of the 25th Airbase Ranger Company.

─ At the same time, we have also conducted basic winter training for conscripted Airbase Rangers. It is rewarding to see the development of our conscripts over a month's time up north. From the first ski technique session, they develop to be able to manage in the field in platoon size without a heat source and with their skills, manage to counteract security-threatening activities in their reconnaissance areas. To achieve this with good results and at the same time succeed in maintaining a good combat value is incredibly gratifying to see, concludes Sebastian.
