The Utti Jaeger Regiment is conducting a comprehensive exercise in northern Finland until the end of March. A total of approximately 1,000 soldiers from the Finnish Defence Forces and allied countries are participating.

The aim of the exercise, according to a press release, is to enhance the readiness of the Defence Forces' jaegers and associated aircraft for operations in demanding winter environments. A key aspect is to develop interoperability. The participants consist of conscripts, reservists, employed personnel, and international forces.

The exercise area covers the entire northern Finland, north of the Oulu-Nurmes line. The soldiers will operate in small patrol formations and bivouac in the terrain. Movement is primarily conducted on skis and snowmobiles, and the troops are using training ammunition.

The activities also involve the NH90 transport helicopter and the MD500 light helicopter. Flights and exercise elements are ongoing around the clock, which may cause noise in the area.
