The Finnish Air Force (Ilmavoimat) will bring the Jännevirta reserve landing strip on Highway 9 near Kuopio (eastern Finland) into use in November during the exercise Protective Fence 26. F/A-18 Hornet and other aircraft will use the road base as the air force practises mobile and dispersed basing at multiple locations across the country.
During the exercise, the Jännevirta reserve landing strip on Highway 9, near the base of the Karelia Air Command in Rissala, will be brought into use. Parts of Highway 9 will simultaneously be closed to traffic between 18 and 25 November, writes the Finnish Air Force.
According to the air force, the aim of Protective Fence 26 is to maintain and develop readiness within Finland's air defence. The exercise covers several bases in different parts of the country and will be conducted in accordance with the air force's mobile and dispersed combat doctrine.
