The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Centre inaugurated a new permanent warehouse in Veitsiluoto, Kemi (northern Finland) on 2 June 2026. The warehouse will serve both the defence forces' own needs and, when required, allied forces in northern Finland.
According to a press release from the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Centre (Puolustusvoimien logistiikkalaitos), Finnish Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen decided in March 2026 to permanently relocate the warehousing operations of the 3rd Logistics Regiment to Veitsiluoto. The decision is stated to form part of efforts to strengthen the logistical infrastructure in northern Finland in connection with Finland's NATO membership.
The 3rd Logistics Regiment, which forms part of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Centre, has the task of building up the defence forces' logistical service network in northern Finland. The regiment stores and maintains war materiel and supports domestic and allied forces in sustainment arrangements. The regiment also has a role in reception and support measures for allied forces in northern Finland.
The Chief Financial Officer of the Finnish Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Jari Mikkonen, inaugurated the warehouse and stated, according to the press release, that the requirements placed on the defence forces' warehousing operations are currently influenced by factors including the need for materiel dispersal and additional procurement resulting from changes in Finland's security environment. NATO membership is also stated to have increased the need to support allied activities with warehousing capacity, both for exercise purposes and for conditions of emergency.
