Finland is sending its 35th defence materiel package to Ukraine after an urgent Ukrainian request for support. The President approved the package, worth around €1 million, on 9 October on the government’s proposal.
— We have received an urgent request for support from Ukraine, which we are answering with this accelerated, targeted measure, said Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen.
The package consists of a single type of defence materiel from the Finnish Defence Forces’ own stocks. The Ministry of Defence is withholding what the materiel is, how it will be delivered and when. It cites operational reasons and the need to ensure the aid reaches Ukraine safely. It says both Ukraine’s needs and the Defence Forces’ own resources were taken into account.
The ministry says work on a larger package is also under way. The new package follows the 34th package, worth around €290 million, which was approved on 15 September. According to the ministry, Finland has delivered defence materiel worth €3.6 billion to Ukraine in total.
