Finland will participate in NATO's annual nuclear deterrence exercise Steadfast Noon, which will be conducted between 13 and 24 October 2025. The participation involves F/A-18 Hornet fighter aircraft and staff officers.

– Finland is involved in planning and making decisions regarding NATO's nuclear policy, so it is natural that we also participate in NATO's annual exercise. Finland participates in the exercise with fighter aircraft and staff officers, says Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen in a press release from Finland's Ministry of Defence.

NATO's deterrence capability consists of a combination of conventional forces, missile defence, and nuclear weapons, complemented by space and cyber capabilities. The purpose of nuclear deterrence is to preserve peace, maintain the alliance's freedom of action, and prevent attacks against member countries.

– Ultimately, Finland's defence is supported by the entire military strength of NATO, including nuclear deterrence. By exercising, we ensure that NATO's nuclear deterrence is credible, safe, and effective. In this way, Finland is safer, says Häkkänen.

The exercise is part of NATO's annual activities. No real nuclear weapons are used or handled during Steadfast Noon.
