Finland will procure RGW110 heavy anti-tank weapons from Germany’s Dynamit Nobel Defence in a deal worth approximately €84.5 million. The weapons will replace the Finnish Army’s ageing APILAS systems, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.
According to a press release from Finland’s Ministry of Defence, Defence Minister Antti Häkkänen has authorised the procurement, which also includes training equipment and instruction. The contract value excludes VAT.
– The procurement [...] is part of a broader process where the focus of materiel procurement is shifting to the Army’s needs. Improving the Army’s materiel and equipment is a strategic investment that will strengthen our defence system as a whole, Minister of Defence Häkkänen said.
The RGW110 is a single-use, shoulder-launched weapon intended to engage main battle tanks at close range. It will complement the Finnish Army’s existing anti-tank capabilities.
In a separate statement, the Finnish Army confirmed that the RGW110 will replace the APILAS system acquired in the 1980s.
– The main battle tank will remain a threat in the battlefield in the future as well. The new single-use anti-tank weapon is intended for destroying tanks at close range, says Colonel Ari Mure, Inspector of the Infantry at Army Command Finland, in the statement.
According to the Finnish Army, the RGW110 was selected following evaluations and tests against a target representing the required level of armour protection. Dynamit Nobel Defence confirms that the weapon’s warhead was subsequently developed further in cooperation with the Finnish Defence Forces to meet their operational requirements.
Neither the number of weapons ordered nor a final delivery date has been disclosed.
