Finland has become a full member of the Multinational Medical Coordination Centre – Europe (MMCC-E). The accession agreement was signed on 17 August 2026 by the Finnish Defence Forces' Surgeon General, Medical Brigadier General Tuomo Leino.
The MMCC-E is led by the German Armed Forces and is headquartered in Koblenz, Germany. The network supports medical cooperation and planning across Europe, including cross-border patient transport during crises. The organisation works closely with both NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and the EU (European Union). Finland's accession was announced in a press release from the Finnish Defence Forces.
Through its membership, Finland gains access to other European countries' medical practices and operational models, and in return contributes its expertise in civil-military healthcare coordination, an area in which the country has extensive experience.
"Finland's accession to the MMCC-E strengthens the country's overall security. In exceptional situations, pre-agreed and well-rehearsed procedures are of crucial importance," says Brigadier General Tuomo Leino.
The membership is part of Finland's broader efforts to strengthen medical preparedness and contributes to collective European medical resilience.
