Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has appointed Lauri Kangas to propose measures to strengthen the country's drone industry. Kangas is technology director at PIA, the Finnish defence and aerospace industry association. His report is due by the end of February 2027.
The inquiry will focus on civilian use of drones. It will recommend ways to boost the sector's competitiveness, growth and exports. According to the Prime Minister's Office, the aim is to strengthen Finland's position as a forerunner in unmanned aviation.
Kangas will first assess the current situation, Finland's national strengths and its main development needs. He will then set out concrete recommendations for growth, exports and technological competitiveness.
A steering group will support the work. MP Jarno Limnell chairs it, with MP Ville Skinnari as vice-chair. Its members represent ministries, authorities, business and the defence industry. Universities, research institutes and companies may also be consulted.
