Finland and Latvia have signed an implementing agreement on the joint development of a new protected military vehicle system, known as the Common Protected Vehicle (CPV). The agreement was signed in Tampere (southern Finland) on 28 May.
According to a press release from the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command (Puolustusvoimien logistiikkalaitos), the cooperation covers the development of a common vehicle family consisting of protected off-road trucks, tactical vehicles, and tracked transport vehicles. The initial work will focus on the development of a protected off-road truck in collaboration between the two countries.
The agreement was signed by Major General Tero Ylitalo, Commander of the Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command, and Alans Andrulis, Director of Latvia's State Centre for Defence Logistics and Procurement.
The implementing agreement is linked to the technical cooperation agreement on joint procurement of mobile systems and technologies signed by Finland and Latvia on 27 May. According to the parties, the new agreement also creates the conditions for future series procurement of the vehicles developed within the programme.
