After the Swedish Work Environment Authority announced that the Life Guards' ceremonial helmet has safety deficiencies, work began to develop a replacement by the Swedish Armed Forces. Over the past year, several parties have been involved in creating a new safe helmet that looks like the old one, and now a finished prototype is in place, according to an article on the Swedish Armed Forces' website.

In May last year, the Defense Union announced that they questioned the safety of the previous riding helmet after incidents where helmets were deformed from being dropped on the ground. The union then wanted the Swedish Work Environment Authority to determine whether the ceremonial helmet of the Royal Guards is safe.

The Swedish Work Environment Authority responded with a letter to the Swedish Armed Forces, stating that the helmet has safety deficiencies. The Life Guards decided in collaboration with the Defense Staff that the ceremonial helmet should not be used during mounted state ceremonial activities.

According to the Swedish Armed Forces, everyone involved has worked hard over the past year to create a new helmet that meets all applicable safety requirements but is also as similar as possible to the original ceremonial helmet in appearance and design.

– This is a complicated process. We are developing a completely new and unique product, and we have prioritized ensuring it is good and correct. We are very pleased with the product we are now moving forward with, says Major Hans Augustin, regimental ceremonial officer at the Life Guards and project manager for the Ceremonial Riding Helmet project in the Swedish Armed Forces article.

The Swedish Armed Forces state that the new helmet will resemble the original with its silver color and have a spike and plume.

– We are developing a completely new and unique product, and we have prioritized ensuring it is safe and as correct in appearance as possible, says Major Hans Augustin.
