The Swedish Armed Forces and Saab have extended an existing agreement for support and maintenance services for the Gripen fighter aircraft. The new contract covers deliveries during the period 2026 to 2027 and is valued at approximately four billion Swedish kronor.
The agreement concerns both the Gripen C/D and E models and also includes options that allow the Swedish Armed Forces to place additional orders until 2029. It encompasses, among other things, technical system support, spare parts, repairs, training, and other service and maintenance services related to Gripen's flight operations.
– This contract is an important foundation to ensure that the Swedish Armed Forces and FMV's export customers can operate the Gripen system in the coming years, says David Helenius-Bylander, Head of Basic Aircraft Unit within the Fighter Aircraft Division at FMV, in a press release from the authority.
Saab also highlights the contract's significance for the availability of the Swedish Air Force.
– The extension of the contract means that we continue to ensure a very high availability for Gripen and deliver the support the Swedish Air Force needs to maintain a high readiness, says Lars Tossman, Head of Saab's Aeronautics business area, in a press release from the company.
