Denmark has taken over the leadership of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC) in Poland. Major General Christian Brejner Ishøj has assumed the role of new director of the centre, succeeding Polish Brigadier General Wojciech Ozga, who has led the organisation since February 2025.
According to a press release from the Danish Defence, JATEC serves as NATO's and Ukraine's joint military and civilian cooperation organisation. The centre collects, analyses, and converts lessons from the war in Ukraine into the development of NATO's and Ukraine's defence and preparedness capabilities. NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) describes the centre as the first joint NATO-Ukrainian organisation within NATO's command structure.
The work covers areas including drone technology, electronic warfare, logistics, battlefield support for soldiers, and tactical combat casualty care.
"The purpose of JATEC is to ensure rapid development within NATO and to bring Ukraine closer to, among other things, NATO's methods. Learning and development must flow in both directions between NATO and Ukraine," says Christian Brejner Ishøj in the press release.
He emphasises that the centre should bridge national, cultural, civilian, and military differences, and contribute to a more integrated and agile way of working.
"The operational environment is changing at a pace we have never seen before. JATEC must challenge established ways of working and help break down isolated silo thinking in favour of an agile and development-oriented approach," he says.
Christian Brejner Ishøj has served in the Danish Defence since 1992 and comes most recently from the position of Chief of Staff at the Danish Defence Command's operations staff. He has previously served as, among other roles, Deputy Director of the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO), known in Danish as Forsvarets Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse.
