The Danish Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI) has signed a framework agreement with Rheinmetall regarding the delivery of ammunition. The first orders include, among other things, 120 mm tank ammunition and are made against the backdrop of the Danish Armed Forces' operational needs, according to a communiqué from the Danish Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI).
– Ammunition is absolutely crucial for many of the Armed Forces' operational capabilities. Therefore, it is also gratifying that we have entered into this agreement with Rheinmetall. At FMI, it is our task to meet the Armed Forces' operational needs, and we do this, among other things, by procuring ammunition for the systems, says Colonel Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen, head of the land division at FMI.
According to a press release from Rheinmetall, the framework agreement runs over seven years, according to the German supplier. The agreement covers deliveries of ammunition in calibres 120 mm, 35 mm, and 30 mm intended for tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and air defence systems.
The supplier states that the first call-offs have a total value in the lower range of a three-digit million amount in euros. The initial orders of medium-calibre ammunition (30 mm x 173 and 35 mm x 228) include volumes in the higher five-digit range.
Regarding the 120 mm ammunition for tanks, Rheinmetall specifies that the order concerns over 1,000 rounds of kinetic energy type. FMI writes that the contract enables the procurement of both training ammunition and live ammunition for combating both armoured and unarmoured targets.
The signing was marked with a ceremony at the Danish embassy in Berlin on 30 January.
– We are grateful for the trust Denmark has shown us regarding its ammunition supply. Rheinmetall sees this as a confirmation of our role as one of the world's leading ammunition manufacturers, says Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG.
NDS wrote last week about Denmark's decision to purchase new 120 mm ammunition for the heavy mortar system CARDOM10.
