The Danish Army is planning to strengthen its training capabilities in Greenland through new facilities and more winter-specific equipment. According to the Hærkommandoen (Danish Army Command), new accommodation solutions in Kangerlussuaq and Nuuk are expected to be ready for use ahead of the coming winter.
In an interview published by the Danish Armed Forces (Forsvaret), Colonel Jesper Møller-Pedersen, head of the Operations and Training Division at the Hærkommandoen (Army Command), states that the focus is on establishing a recurring training cycle for the exercise Arctic Endurance and on procuring additional materiel for winter training.
"I believe we are even better prepared for the coming winter and the training activities in Greenland than before. Among other things, additional materiel is being procured to support the planned winter training programmes," says Jesper Møller-Pedersen in the interview.
According to the Army Command, the objective is also to establish Arctic Endurance as a NATO training exercise. At the same time, the Army wishes to continue cooperation with the Nordic countries on winter training and considers it natural to also exchange instructors in Greenland.
