The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (FMI) has signed an agreement with the German company Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme. The contract includes five new mobile field hospitals of the Role 2 type for the Danish Army. Deliveries will commence in 2026 and are expected to be completed by 2027.
– The new Role 2 is a container-based solution that can be used directly from the vehicle platform. This provides increased mobility and speed, which is a necessity on the modern battlefield, says Helle, head of the section for deployment and field medical care at FMI, in a press release.
According to a press release from FMI, the new hospitals are more mobile and quicker to set up compared to the army's current tent solution. The acquisition is divided into two variants for deployment within the framework of the 1st Brigade. This involves three units of the Role 2 Basic (R2B) type and two units of the Role 2 Enhanced (R2E) type.
The R2B units are delivered with a forward module, a surgical resource intended for life-saving treatment near the front line. The R2E represents the next step in the system and offers higher capacity and extended diagnostics, according to FMI. Among other features, the R2E is equipped with a CT scanner and dental care facilities. Both platforms have integrated systems for electricity, water, and climate control to ensure a sterile environment.
