Delivery of a Compact, High-Performance Telemetry Computer for Missile Applications
Expando has developed and delivered a compact telemetry computer for use in missile systems, commissioned by a European defense customer. The project demanded very high standards of robustness, compact format, and reliability in extreme environments—requirements that existing COTS solutions could not meet.
Built for Extreme Environments:
When COTS isn't enough, custom engineering delivers. A defense customer turned to Expando with a very specific need: to develop a telemetry computer that could reliably operate in the demanding and confined environment of a missile system. Additionally, the system needed to integrate FPGA capability, support a large number of I/O interfaces, and include USB 3.0, a particularly challenging task when military circular connectors are used. This required a solution that balanced computing power, robustness, connectivity, and compact form, a combination rarely found ready-made on the market.
“This was not just about fitting electronics into a tight space, but about enabling flexibility, performance, and mission assurance in an environment where failure is not an option. Standard solutions could not meet the requirements. This is where our own expertise made the difference.” — Project Manager, Expando
THE CHALLENGE
A leading defense customer needed a robust telemetry computer that could handle a large number of I/O, offer USB 3.0 connectivity, and integrate with FPGA—all within the confined space of a missile platform.
OUR SOLUTION
A COTS COM Express (COMe) platform was selected, and our team customized it to meet the strict performance and interface requirements.
THE RESULT
A compactly designed, Atom-based telemetry computer, configured and modified according to the customer's exact specifications. Entirely manufactured in the EU, providing the customer with a compact, reconfigurable solution.
FAQ
Senast faktagranskad: 2025-09-21.
