In January, Danish soldiers conducted winter exercises in northern Sweden to enhance their ability to fight and survive in cold and demanding terrain. The training aims to prepare commanders and officers to lead and operate effectively in Arctic warfare, writes the Danish Defence Command.
The training, called the Winter Warfare Course, is conducted with instructors and course participants from several countries and took place in northern Sweden during January. Among the participants were non-commissioned officers and officers from the Danish Army, focusing on adapting military tactics, leadership, and materiel to Arctic conditions.
– Through various training modules and exercises, course participants learn how to adapt tactical procedures, use their equipment, and lead their units safely and effectively in extreme cold and waist-deep snow, writes the Danish Defence Command.
According to the course leadership, the training is not only about surviving in the cold but also about being able to accomplish tasks effectively over extended periods in a climate that is significantly more demanding than the winter conditions soldiers normally encounter in Denmark. The goal is to train leaders with a deep understanding of the Arctic environment and its impact on both personnel and military capability.
– By enhancing Danish soldiers' ability to operate in extreme cold, the Danish defence simultaneously strengthens both the national and the joint Nordic defence of the Arctic, writes the Danish Defence Command.
