The Danish Air Home Guard (Flyverhjemmeværnet) has received a third Twin Otter aircraft. Named Sleipnir, it recently arrived at Roskilde Airport to serve alongside its two sister aircraft, Hugin and Munin.
According to the Danish Home Guard, the existing fleet has supported the Danish Armed Forces, the police, and customs and tax authorities. The addition also supports plans to expand deployments to the Mediterranean for Frontex operations.
Colonel Dan Hasselmann Hansen, Chief of the Air Home Guard, said the new aircraft will allow greater support to other authorities in Denmark and abroad. The aircraft is leased from Zimex and is being fitted with Danish registration marks. It will be operated by Squadron 270, based in Roskilde and Aalborg.
Like its predecessors, Sleipnir will be used for observation, reconnaissance, patrol, maritime surveillance, and searches for missing persons on land and at sea. The addition will require the recruitment of more volunteer pilots, system operators, and ground support technicians for the squadron.
