Denmark’s combat battalion in Latvia has taken part in exercise Oak Projection with NATO’s Multinational Brigade Latvia (MNB-LVA). Around 1,700 soldiers practised moving and deploying combat-ready units away from the brigade’s base in Ādaži, Danish Defence said.

The exercise took place at the Sēlija training area in southern Latvia.

A Danish mechanised infantry company in Piranha armoured vehicles acted as the opposing force. Its role was to simulate a numerically superior enemy, despite being the weaker force in reality. The company's task was to break into brigade positions, sabotage vehicles and seize crossing points.

In one attack, a Danish drone spotted Canadian soldiers hidden near a crossing over the Sunīte river. Artillery then knocked out a tank defending the crossing. Under cover of smoke, the Danish infantry attacked and pushed the Canadians back.

— Measured in both soldiers and equipment, we were the weaker side, said Captain Jannick, head of the Danish contribution.

— It couldn’t have gone much better, he said.

Oak Projection was preparation for a larger brigade exercise later this autumn. In June, Denmark decided to send up to 850 soldiers to the Canadian-led brigade in the second half of 2026, as previously reported by NDS.
