The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO; FMI in Danish) has received the first three of a total of 15 new heavy equipment transporters (HETs) for the Danish Army. Their loads will include CV90 infantry fighting vehicles, Leopard 2A7 main battle tanks and armoured personnel carriers in the 1st Brigade, which is currently being equipped with new vehicles. This is according to a DALO press release.

“This is both a reinforcement and an expansion. It gives us additional operational capacity to move equipment,” says Major Bjarne of DALO’s Vehicles Business Area.

Each transporter consists of a 650 hp Scania tractor unit and an eight-axle Broshuis HET8 low-loader semi-trailer with a payload capacity of up to 89.5 tonnes. The vehicles can also be fitted with a detachable Sepson winch and a generator, so disabled vehicles can be winched onto the trailer.

According to a Broshuis press release, Scania placed the order for the trailers on behalf of the Danish Armed Forces. Broshuis describes the delivery as a collaboration between the two companies and says the trailers will be delivered during 2026.

“With the transporters we now have, there is no part of the armed forces’ heavy equipment that we cannot move ourselves. For many years we had to hire in capacity. That is no longer the case,” says Major Bjarne.

According to DALO, the limiting factor is how much equipment can be moved within a given time.

In peacetime, the vehicles will move equipment between garrisons, workshops and training areas, and support exercises and training. In wartime, they will form part of the 1st Brigade’s logistics, moving heavy units to railheads, ports or areas of operations.

Earlier this year, NDS reported that DALO had signed an agreement for additional Scania trucks for the Danish Armed Forces, the Danish Home Guard (Hjemmeværnet) and the Danish Emergency Management Agency (Beredskabsstyrelsen).
