Danish military personnel have tested the Army’s new Saab BT46 I-LDS combat simulation system in the field at Oksbøl. The test took place earlier this year, Denmark’s defence procurement agency FMI said on 22 October.
— We have finally crossed the finish line on this very, very important acquisition for the Army. It means their training can reach a level we haven’t seen before, says Colonel Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen, head of FMI’s Land Division.
The system uses laser, sensor and GPS technology. It records hits and soldiers’ movements across the training area. Exercise leaders then get detailed data to evaluate and learn from each exercise.
According to FMI, I-LDS will let the Army run realistic combat training up to battalion level without live ammunition. FMI does not say how many systems were bought or under which contract.
In 2022, FMI signed a 15-year framework agreement with Saab for live training equipment. Saab put its potential value at about DKK 550 million.
