Charlotte von Essen has worked at the Swedish Security Service for six years and was appointed as the highest chief two years ago. She succeeded Klas Friberg, who abruptly left and recently started the foundation Gothenburg Institute for Social Responsibility, according to an interview with the union Ledarna. Before von Essen began her law studies, she was a social worker. Thereafter, she has worked as, among other things, a judge and legal director at the Ministry of Justice.
- My programme is about spies and terrorists, difficult decisions, protecting Sweden, and stopping serious crime before it is committed. But I also take listeners inside the Swedish Security Service and describe the difficult considerations we make every day, she tells Swedish Radio.
